Studio 1

Studio 1 is a versatile recording space with a large, double-height live room and seven booths - six configurable, and one static. The control room features a 96-channel Neve 88RS, a large selection of outboard, and 7.1 ATC monitoring.

It also features a 1970s EMI TG12345 mk2, famously used for the recording of Wings' Band On The Run album, and a 1960s EMI REDD.51 console - the only known fully working model in existence.

The live space is one of the most adaptable in London, suitable for bands and orchestral sessions alike. Every aspect of its design was created with musicians in mind.

Microphone and equipment list available upon request.

"Recording at British Grove is a one-of-a-kind experience. The environment is so special and truly conducive to focusing on your art. Every time I've worked there I've felt like we captured something we wouldn't have found anywhere else. Not only is the space itself beautiful and eminently comfortable, the equipment and machinery (even the vintage tape machines and boards) are all in mint-condition. I'm looking forward to my next session there!”

Nicholas Britell
If Beale Street Could Talk, Moonlight, Succession

“I absolutely love working at British Grove. It’s such a fantastic collection of vintage and state-of-the-art equipment. All kept in pristine condition by the very efficient team who also create a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I am very grateful for Mark Knopfler’s vision and commitment in designing and maintaining such a beautiful and brilliant sounding space.”

Markus Dravs
Coldplay, Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons

“If you’re looking for that old-time retro sound combined with modern recording technology piloted by a smart staff, look no further than British Grove Studios in sunny Chiswick, London.”

Tony Visconti
David Bowie, T Rex, Thin Lizzy

"British Grove, to my knowledge, is one of the few fully fledged recording studios left in England. Added to that the value of the fact that I know the proprietor very well and appreciate his vision; and because he’s a musician and understands the technology it’s not just science, it all has a reason.”

Eric Clapton

“Over the years I’ve worked in the world’s finest studios. British Grove eclipses them all. It is without doubt the best studio I’ve ever worked in, on every level. It’s faultless. The studio, the gear, the people, the atmosphere, all perfection. Yet without doubt the magic sauce is the love and care that goes into everything.”

Steven Lipson
Hans Zimmer, Jeff Beck, Dune: Part Two

“British Grove has provided the perfect creative sanctuary for me on many occasions and on many movie projects over the years. The rooms, and their equipment and monitoring, are every bit as wonderful as you’d expect, but beyond that has been the sense of calm, supportive expertise that has helped me make the best possible recordings amidst the often chaotic endgame of a movie production. Every day spent there has been a good day. Can’t wait until the next time.“

Steven Price
Gravity, Fury, Last Night In Soho

"What they have put together at British Grove studios is unique. There is no other studio that can adapt so perfectly to the different styles required for scoring movies. The mic and outboard collection is fabulous and the rooms sound superb."

Rupert Gregson-Williams
Wonder Woman, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, Hackshaw Ridge

You can work in the old way there, with old tape machines and mixing desks, or you can just use the technology as it is now. The console in the main studio, the Neve 88RS, which is huge, is the one that's used for orchestral recording for Hollywood and stuff like that these days. The mic amplifier is just about the best in the world.
